Dear Diary

As usual today I woke up around 5 am to start my day off early and ensure it is as productive as possible. After some short exercises and stretches I eat my breakfast and help get my kids ready for school.

Once they are ready and on their way to school I make the drive down to my office and prepare for my usual morning meetings with my team.

We have morning briefings three days a week in order to ensure that we are all on the same page and working towards goals effectively. As an MP and head of an NGO which provides basic service to the most marginalized sections of society my day to day tasks are anything but easy, however it's the feeling of knowing I am making a positive change for others that keeps me driven to work hard each day.

After the routine morning briefings I am off to the parliament for regular sessions, on my way there I read through a new law, which is being tabled and make calls to see what other lawmakers think about the law and if the parliament believes it should be passed.

I take pride in the fact that I am able to be a part of the legislative process in my country and I never take it for granted not even for one second. I always consult with members of the public and see what others think in order to ensure that public opinion is in favor of what the government is working towards.

I feel that it is extremely important that the public feels they are being fairly consulted and are somewhat apart of the decision process.

Once my time at the parliament is done I head over to pick up my kids from school. I enjoy being able to surprise them whenever I get some free time. We usually go out for ice cream but today we opted to go get a pizza together. As a father I feel its important to play a vital role in the lives of your kids, therefore I strive to be someone they can look up to and be proud to call dad.

As the evening starts to creep in I go over some financial statements of the NGO and make some calls to donors to give them updates on our terms of reference and let them know where we stand on our goals. As dinner approaches I get dressed and take my wife out to dinner.

Being a mother is a job, which I know, entails more work then people know or give credit for. Therefore I always try to make my wife feel like taking her out to dinner whenever I can and occasionally taking her and the kids on vacation.

After a nice dinner out we came home put the kids to bed and I do some last minute reading before calling it a night. All in all I would say that today was a productive and beautiful day all around.
